Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah is an American rapper singer. Queen Latifah's performance in music film and television has earned her a Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award and six more Grammy nominations an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was raised in Newark, NJ. Her parents are Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifahs parents split up when Latifah was ten years old. was ten years old. Latifah attended Catholic School in Newark, the state of New Jersey. She was also raised by her family's Baptist Church. The stage name Latifah is a reference to delicate and compassionate in Arabic was bestowed by her cousin at the age of she was just eight years old. Latifah's 5'10" height allowed her to be a formidable athlete in high school. The song she sang was Home from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah became a beatboxer for The Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was one of the members of the original model of the Flavor Unit which at that the time was comprised of MCs who were grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the45King) recorded a demo for Queen Latifah rapper Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to the host of Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the tune. It was signed by Latifah and dropped her first single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
